LE 2 Summary

As I wrap up LE2, I really feel that this learning experience has given me concrete materials to implement. I also found the integration of diverse ways to share and acknowledge learning exciting and enjoyable. I love a good GIF, so being able to respond to other learners with them, and seeing their responses has been entertaining!

Mindfulness

We spoke about mindfulness which is something I already incorporate into my classrooms, but want to continue and adjust for the future. I really enjoyed the variety of ideas provided in the resources that we were given:

Gamification & Game-Based Learning

I really enjoyed learning about the incorporation of game-like elements to learning, as well as the integration of learning through games that address curriculum needs. I am always looking for more resources and ways to teach through games, as I find that it is a way many of our students enjoy learning, I once took the time to create a murder trivia game for my students that incorporated elements of people in our classroom plus the learning of algebra, and they really enjoyed the activity. I just found that the amount of time that it took to create, is not something I can obtain on a regular basis.

Online Math Resources

I am learning with each passing year that math is one of my favourite subjects to teach. I find that the objectiveness with assessment has been easy for me to do, compared to other subject areas. I enjoy having students interact with their learning and inquiry of math to gain a conceptual understanding through a variety of manipulatives, resources, and strategies. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the way they learn and make sense of problems in a way that can be so different from mine. I am excited to use some of the resources I have found through this course:

I especially found this topic interesting because it allowed an opportunity of self-expression. I remember making a physical book for an art course during my time at teachers college. I named it "I Am Art" and it told my life story and all of the rollercoaster moments that make up the mosaic of my identity. I often start the year with personal narrative writing as it is a great way for students to share about themselves. I had never thought about giving them the opportunity to produce a digital piece of work - and I am mad that I didn't! I can't wait to incorporate more digital story telling resources for students to use throughout the year.
